Basmati rice is a long-grain rice that grows in the northern part of India and Pakistan. 817 Elephant® brand rice comes from India. The rich soil and the high morning humidity contribute to the excellence of this rice:
817 Elephant® Brand Basmati Rice is aged to further improve its length and flavor, and all 817 Elephant® Basmati rice is clearly marked "Aged" on the packaging. Rice growers are not millers. They grow the rice and go to the market and sell them to the highest bidder - broker or miller. The miller then mills the rice. Unfortunately, many millers want the highest profit, so they often mix the Basmati rice with other white rice to lower their cost. The percentage of mixed rice lowers the quality from 10 (on a scale of 1 to 10) to as low as 1. The added mix is the difference. In the case of 817 Elephant® Brand Basmati Rice, we first age the rice to perfection. Then we mill it. We do not mix any other rice, and that is why our rice costs slightly more than our "competitors." However, you are guaranteed high quality, consistency and fabulous flavor. We also use the latest milling and color separating equipment to deliver a pure white jewel. The advantage of ageing rice is that it loses most of its moisture. When you cook it, the rice grains reabsorb the moisture they had lost, and therefore grows over half an inch in length, releasing the beautiful aroma that it naturally possesses.
